Product Description
The Model DDV is a diaphragm-operated deluge valve designed for reliable fire protection applications. It is available in multiple nominal sizes, including 1-1/2” (40mm), 2” (50mm), 2-1/2” (65mm), 76mm, 3” (80mm), 4” (100mm), 6” (150mm), 165mm, and 8” (200mm), offering various end configurations (refer to Table A).

This valve functions by utilizing a diaphragm that seals against a precision-machined seat in the valve body. Water pressure held in the chamber between the diaphragm and cover keeps the diaphragm sealed against the seat, preventing water flow. When this chamber’s pressure is relieved, the diaphragm moves away from the seat, allowing water to flow through the valve.

The DDV Model simplifies maintenance due to its integrated trim, ensuring all components are directly attached to the valve body. Additionally, the diaphragm can be accessed and replaced without disturbing the trim assembly.

Three different release trim packages are available to suit various applications:

  1. Electric actuation for controlled operation.
  2. Wet pilot line trim for hydraulic activation.
  3. Dry pilot line trim, including an optional pressure-regulating version that allows controlled water pressure downstream (as per Table E).

Note: The 8” (200mm) Model DDV is not available with a pressure-regulating trim option.

End Configuration Options

End Configuration Standard Availability
GR x GR (ANSI/AWWA C606) All Sizes
Class 150 FLG x FLG (ASME B16.5) All Sizes
Class 300 FLG x FLG (ASME B16.5) All Sizes
PN16 FLG x FLG (ISO 7005-2) All Sizes
BS-E FLG x FLG (BS 10) Available in specific sizes
NPT THD x THD (ANSI/ASME B1.20.1) Sizes: 1-1/2”, 2”, 2-1/2”, & 3”
ISO 7/1 THD x THD Sizes: 1-1/2”, 2”, 2-1/2”, & 3”

The Model DDV is UL Listed and FM Approved, ensuring compliance with industry safety standards.

Each trim option includes 0-300 psi water pressure gauges for monitoring both the incoming water supply and the control chamber. The dry pilot pressure-regulating trim comes with an additional 0-300 psi gauge for adjusting outlet pressure. Optional 0-600 psi pressure gauges are also available.

For added convenience, Model DDV systems with grooved end connections can be ordered with or without control valves (water supply valve and upper service valve). The available control valves include Reliable RBVG or REL363GT grooved-end butterfly valves with built-in tamper switches.

Plugged outlets are included to accommodate alarm devices (sold separately), and an optional alarm line test valve kit can be installed for system testing (refer to Figures 11 & 12).

Engineering Specification

Model Diaphragm Deluge Valve (DDV)

Recommended CSI MasterFormat Specification Location: 21 13 26 – Deluge Fire-Suppression Sprinkler Systems (formerly 13950).

The deluge valve shall be an FM Approved, hydraulically operated diaphragm-style valve. Constructed from ductile iron with a red oxide epoxy internal coating and urethane external finish, the valve is built for durability in demanding environments.

A fabric-reinforced EPDM diaphragm provides a secure seal against the machined seat inside the valve body. This straight-through design minimizes friction loss and supports both horizontal and vertical installations.

All trim connections are made directly to the valve body, with no attachments to the cover, allowing easy access to the diaphragm for maintenance.

The deluge valve can be activated using multiple trim options, including:

  • Hydraulic wet-pilot actuation
  • Pneumatic dry-pilot actuation
  • Electric actuation
  • Pneumatic dry-pilot pressure-regulating actuation
  • Remote resetting (on/off operation)
  • Remote resetting (on/off operation with pressure regulation)

The deluge valve trim is constructed from galvanized materials for corrosion resistance. Additionally, an alarm test line can be included upon request.

Valve Size and Pressure Ratings:

  • 1-1/2” (40mm), 2” (50mm), 2-1/2” (65mm), 76mm, 3” (80mm), 4” (100mm), 6” (150mm), and 165mm
  • Rated working pressure: 400 psi (27.5 bar) for hydraulic wet-pilot, pneumatic dry-pilot, pneumatic dry-pilot pressure-regulating, and remote-resetting pressure-regulating trims.
  • Rated working pressure: 300 psi (20.7 bar) for electric and remote-resetting actuation trims.

Valve End Connections:

  • Grooved (ANSI/AWWA C606)
  • Flanged, Class 150 (ASME B16.5)
  • Flanged, Class 300 (ASME B16.5)
  • Flanged, PN16 (ISO 7005-2)
  • Flanged, BS-E (BS 10)
  • Threaded, NPT (ANSI/ASME B1.20.1)
  • Threaded, ISO7-1

For pressure-regulating versions, the output pressure range is 50-200 psi (3.4-13.8 bar) across all sizes, except for 6” (150mm) and 165mm valves, which have an output range of 20-200 psi (1.4-13.8 bar).

The deluge valve shall be the Reliable Model DDV Diaphragm Deluge Valve. For further details, refer to:

  • Bulletin 550 (for remote resetting and pressure-regulating trims).
  • Bulletin 551 (for electric, hydraulic wet-pilot, pneumatic dry-pilot, and pneumatic dry-pilot pressure-regulating trims).

This comprehensive design ensures the Model DDV meets fire protection system requirements with efficient operation, durability, and simplified maintenance.
