Description

Von Duprin CXA98EO 3 US26D – 3′ Chexit Rim Exit Device (Exit Only, Satin Chrome, Delayed Egress)

The Von Duprin CXA98EO 3 US26D Chexit Exit Device is a heavy-duty, delayed egress rim exit device, specifically designed for controlled environments that require secure, time-delayed exits. It’s commonly used in behavioral health centers, maternity wards, memory care units, and retail spaces where asset protection, patient safety, and controlled exit are critical. This device functions as exit-only hardware and incorporates an integrated alarm, auxiliary locking system, remote signaling, and delay control—all within a self-contained unit.

This model is part of the 98 Series, known for its durability and wide stile design. It features a smooth case mechanism and fits single or double doors (with mullion), making it versatile for various commercial and institutional applications. The Chexit is non-handed and reversible, making it suitable for left- or right-swinging doors. The US26D finish (satin chromium plated) offers a modern, corrosion-resistant appearance that blends into most commercial door settings.

The Chexit system initiates a 15-second delay upon the push pad being pressed, during which an audible alarm sounds before the door is allowed to open. A large 6″ x 20″ decal is included for door application, reading: “PUSH UNTIL ALARM SOUNDS. DOOR CAN BE OPENED IN 15 SECONDS.” This meets code requirements while providing clear instructions for users during emergency exits.

Powering the Chexit requires a PS914 power supply, and the unit operates on 24VDC continuous duty. The solenoid inrush current is 16 amps, and holding current is 0.3 amps. It also supports fire alarm integration—disabling instantly when the building’s fire system is activated (via normally closed input contacts).

Security & Alarm Features

A built-in Request to Exit (REX) switch detects attempts to exit. If the device is armed and someone applies light pressure (less than 15 lbs.) to the push bar, it begins an irreversible alarm cycle and starts the 15-second delay.

The Nuisance Alarm and Nuisance Audible features help reduce false alarms in high-traffic areas. If nuisance delay is enabled, the push pad must be held for 2 seconds before triggering the alarm. If nuisance audible is enabled, the alarm will sound immediately upon pressing the pushpad—but will only fully trigger if held for 2+ seconds.

The device also features a powerful internal horn rated at over 85dB at 6 feet. Users can select whether the horn sounds during fire alarm conditions.

A bright indicator lamp provides clear status visibility in any lighting condition:

  • Off – Disarmed

  • Solid On – Pending arm

  • Slow Flash – Armed

  • Fast Flash – Alarm active

The internal auxiliary locking mechanism engages automatically when the device is armed. It’s engineered to resist forceful blows and will reliably release when signaled. The lock also has a protective override spring that prevents damage if excessive force is applied to the push bar.

External & Remote Integration

This Chexit device includes built-in connectivity for enhanced integration:

  • Fire Alarm Input: Device disables instantly on fire alarm signal (normally closed contact opens).

  • Remote Inhibit Input: Allows authorized systems (e.g., card reader, wall switch, security panel) to remotely disarm or reset the alarmed device.

  • Relay Outputs: 1A at 24VDC dry contacts provided for external alarms, lights, or signals. These activate only during a confirmed alarm state.

  • Door Position Input: Optional input for a door position switch. Enhances anti-pass-back, and triggers an alarm if the door is open while armed or fails to close before rearming.

  • Key Switch: Enables manual arming, disarming, and reset. Key can be removed in either position. A blank cylinder may be used if not required.
